Description of buildings

Currently, this property is used as an accommodation and hospitality business. It includes two suites and 6 apartments, various frescoed reception halls, a kitchen with an ancient oven, a multipurpose room with a wardrobe, a private chapel, a study and a library.
In addition, 2,000 sq.m of agricultural buildings can be transformed into apartments after renovation.
Currently, this property can host up to 140 people in the event hall and sleep up to 19+4 people.
Legally-recognised civil unions can be celebrated in the richly decorated private chapel.
An old mill and two large cellars are included in the property.
Over the centuries, various noble families have owned this Medieval Castle, which dates back to the 1300s. Since the mid-18th century, it has been owned by the same family, whose ancestors include a noblewoman portrayed by Leonardo Da Vinci and a major artist of the Florentine Renaissance. Giacomo Puccini – one of the greatest composers of Italian opera – was a dear friend of the owners and used to hunt in the castle’s extensive woodlands.
Until the last century, the main house, the farmhouse, and the outbuildings (sawmill, mill, olive mill, winery and cellar, wheat barn, drying kiln for silk, forge for farming tools, hen house, and stables) made up a small independent and self-sufficient ‘hamlet. All religious rituals were celebrated in the family chapel.
Excellent wines were already produced as early as the mid-19th century. These wines were even awarded at the Esposizione Italiana di Sar Eugenio di Savoia. In the 1920s, the castle’s owner was the first to export large amounts of Chianti wine to the United States, New York in particular. In Manhattan, the company owned a building, which housed the offices and the storage. The wine was sold at Macy’s. The company stopped exporting to the States after the sudden death of the Baron, in 1934, right before the outbreak of the Second World War. A few months before, the castle was taken over by enemy forces who set it on fire before their retreat. Fortunately, the fire was soon extinguished. The damage was limited thanks to the valiant intervention of the family and the entire village.
Since the early 1800s, olive oil was produced in the castle’s old mill.
State and finishing
Today, 1000 sq.m are used for accommodation and hospitality purposes. Here is also where ceremonies and events take place.
The remaining buildings, which were once used for agricultural and artisan activities, can be used for the same purposes after renovation.
The property also includes a plot of land of over 15 ha, 1,850 sq.m of which occupied by an Italianate garden, the lemon house, the old winery and the swimming pool.
The 2-ha vineyard produces an excellent Igt red wine, whereas the 8-ha olive grove with Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino olive trees produces excellent olive oil and there are 5-ha of woodland.
If you wish, there is the possibility of purchasing additional 85 hectares of woodland.
